How do you get a payment terminal accredited?

To get a payment terminal accredited, manufacturers need to follow a multi-step process that ensures compliance with industry standards for secure payment processing. The first step is to partner with a payments specialist such as PAYA Gateway, an acquiring bank or payment processor, who will facilitate the accreditation process.

It's imperative that your terminal has EMV (Europay, Mastercard, and Visa) Level 1 and 2 certification, which verifies that the hardware and software meet global security standards for handling chip-based transactions.

When a device meets EMV standards acquirer testing is the next step. This process involves working closely with the acquiring bank to verify that the terminal can handle transactions correctly. Following this EMV Level 3 certification tests the terminal's integration with the acquirer’s systems so that the terminal can process payments in real-world scenarios.

Once completed successfully the acquiring bank will provide official accreditation for the terminal. This means a manufacturer’s payment terminal is approved to accept and process payments, complying with regulatory and security standards. Accreditation is crucial for protecting a business and customers from. By following these processes, a terminal will be fully accredited and ready to accept payments in a secure, reliable manner.
